Laura, Mother Knows Best founder, answers 10 randomly picked questions.
1. How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
From a young age I knew I wanted to run my own business and through the years I’ve had a tonne of ideas. Yet in the end I was never quite passionate enough to really get them off the ground.
Becoming pregnant in 2018 focused my mind and by the time my son was born I knew now was the right time. It was a few months afterwards though that I found my passion.
I was struggling with the way I looked & trying to come to terms with this ‘new me’. I wanted to shout I was a mum from the roof tops but also re-find the woman I was before baby came along.
This concept grew into Mother Knows Best. Donating a portion of sales to mum-focused charities was a big part of that. Mother Knows Best encapsulates motherhood, it’s ups and downs and its beauty. It’s about helping mums, whatever their journey.
2. What was your mission at the outset?
To use my skills to challenge myself. My mission is to do some good and make mamas out there feel great.
3. What is the best and worst purchases you’ve ever made?
That’s a tricky one… there are so many of both!
I’d have to say my best has got to be my Mulberry purse. It’s classic, well-made and makes me happy every time I get it out of my bag.
The worst could easily be the charity shop granny skirt I bought as a knee jerk reaction to finding out my old clothes DEFINITELY weren’t practical after baby. Think extremely short dress and bending over to pick up bub… at a christening! EEK
4. What are you completely over and done with?
Mum guilt. I just can’t be doing with it. I am who I am. I do what I do. Guilt, go F*&$ yourself.
5. What is your favorite TV show?
Hmmm, well we’re loving Peaky Blinders at the moment. The way my husband knows if I’m into a TV show is that I end up doing a little excitement dance to the music intro credits.
6. What do you wish people would stop asking you?
When are you going to have another one? Gees, I’ve literally just popped out the first. Give the woman a break.
7. What’s the biggest lesson life has taught you?
Nothing is to do with money. It just can’t be your main focus. Focus on getting to your purpose and the rest will follow.
8. When does time pass fastest for you and when does it pass the slowest?
Time passes fastest when I’m learning something new or catching up with a friend. Slowest has got to be doing my self assessment tax return. Bleugh.
9. What always sounds like a good idea at the time but rarely is?
Shots? Actually, they’ve not sounded like a good idea since I was 21 in truth.
Hmmm, being tempted into ordering that massive slice of chocolate cake at the coffee shop. You know the one, it looks like it would literally taste like heaven. It never does, not even close and all your left with is calories. Gets me every time.
10. What do you wish you had more time for?
I’m more Monica from Friends that Phoebe. I like to fill my days, I constantly have a To-Do list on the go and I own a real-life Filofax (cringe I know but I freaking love it). I wish i’d allow myself more time for doing absolutely nothing & most importantly not feel guilty about it!
